Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them
— Hebrews 11:18 NIV
Show me, Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is. You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you.
Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure. Surely everyone goes around like a mere phantom; in vain they rush about, heaping up wealth without knowing whose it will finally be. But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you.
— Psalm 39:4-7 NIV

Civil War abolitionist Julia Ward Howe once wrote, "Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored; He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword; His truth is marching on."

There is something Holy about fighting for a just and righteous cause. We are living in a world where minorities and people groups are suffering severe forms of oppression. A word where a kind word to our fellow man is a rare occasion. We are seeing the brokenness of sin more and more clearly every day, with bodies of water wreaking of death from e-coli to increased natural disasters due to lack of wisdom in taking care of the earth God put under our dominion. The natural state of humanity is falling desperately short.

We must take heart. Satan wants every last person on this planet to shrink away in fear. We are called to rise up. We are more than conquerors, we are over-comers, and we are warriors in His army. He promises, "Lo, I am with you always, even until the end of the age" "Take heart" "Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."

This is our chance to take Him at His Word. No more fear, no more looking back and despairing. This is our chance to fulfill our purposes as men and women in the Lord's Army.

"I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you." Luke 10:19
